Why would you need LINK EXCHANGES for SEO?

Two main reasons, to get traffic, to get higher PR. Go to  http://xchangetextlinks.com/ and sign yourself up. Much better than banner exchanges-the site offers you the chance to immidiatly take part in relevant text link exchanges-I will explain why this is important in a momment.

Ok, lets say that your site sells cat food. The best thing for you to do in SEO terms is to link with other cat/food/cat product related sites with PR. In SEO terms even if you can get a PR 4 site selling golf balls to link to you, search engines may mark it as a non- relevant link exchange and ignore it. Far better to get links from similar or closely related sites.

If you own a huge network of sites....be vey carefull about linking them all up. Instead, try linking sites a-b to c-d instead. The search engines can detect patterns, and if you link every single one of your sites up ro all the others-they will smell a rat and penalise you! Not the way to SEO.

Try a google search and look for sites similar or related to your own ans email the webmasters requesting an exchange. Try to wait a short time till your site has at least a little PR-other webmasters are more likely to agree to an exchange if you do.

Be careful who you link too-google them and make sure that the site has not been banned, or that the webmaster that you are exchanging with is not a cheat. Google them-if they are someone  who cheats it is very likely someone has reported them before on a webmaster board at some point.

Check up on your link exchanges every so often, you may find that people cheat and remove your link-or they could have had a mishap and accidently lost your link. Some webmasters may be worse than cheats and re-direct your link to illegal sites-so check up on them from time to time.

Three way linking explained. Now I have talked all through the site about one way backlinks. A one way link (These means site A links to your site and your site does not link back) are very valuable to you in SEO terms. So do get your site in as many non reciprical link directories as possible. Also-if you know any bloggers-see if they are prepaired to 'review' your site adding a link to it. Now, once you have got a few link exchanges or are a regular on a few webmaster boards, you may be in a position to set up some three way linking. Three way link exchanges work this way-You have 2 cat food sites A AND B. You get chatting to a webmaster who has 2 cat fod sites 1 and 2. Now, you agree to link to site 1 from site A of your sites, he links to site A of your site on his site 2. So instead of direct site to site straight link swops-you can both link to each other from different sites to the original site in question.

To explain it another way in SEO terms, you may well see posts such as this on webmaster boards:

Experience the Freedom (plus traffic and sales increses) of becoming your own SEO Expert.

You no longer have to rely on high priced  SEO services that quite frankly show little results. They do say if you want a job doing...do it yourself. Yes-it will take a bit of time. Yes-You will have to learn some new techniques. Yes-You can speed up the whole process buy buying a few cheap tools (we reccomend the best of them on this site), Yes- You can just pay someone to do it for you.

Big Mistakes.

Thinking your site dosen't need any SEO. Assuming that is you pay a one off fee to any company that provides SEO that you won't need any more SEO on your site in future. There is a lot of SEO techniques you apply to a newly launched site, but SEO is an ongoing process! Here is a basic fast track listing of SEO practice, site start up and tips to help you avoid mistakes and time and money consuming pitfalls.

SEO-The condensed method

Let's start at the beggining-Hosting. Have bad, slow, inferior or unreliable hosting can hold your site back or even ruin you so check out http://www.10starhost.com for some great hosting reviews and offers. There is nothing worse than building a great site and traffic to fin your server is to slow, your site is allways down, or worst of all...finding you have been hacked. It is also not always an easy or pleasnat thing (if it is complex or scripted) to have to move your site to new hosting. Try to get this right at the start by choosing good reliable fast hosting.

Get a great domain-go look at http://www.dnseek.info Here you can purchase domains, or get a price on a domain and find out its value.

If you haven't already chosen your subject matter for you site-do it now. Even if you will be marketing your own product, look for some related additioanl products to add from great converting sponsors. (See Index) Reasearch your subject, keywords and meta info carefully.

Build your new killer site-only after reading the valuable tutorials availiable on this site (see index)

I can only assume you want to make money as a webmaster-right? I can also safely summise that you want to improve your site and make sales too? Well, just like everything else in life, there is a natural order to things. Read this fast Track guide below.

We have also gathered together listings of, Directories, webmaster boards, pay per click search engines, helpfull links, great converting sponsors and a whole list of tutorial that you can find easily on this site.So read this Fast Track Overview of basic SEO-Then have a click around the site.

Hosting. You need good, if not great hosting from day 1 if you seriously want your site to work and not to have to later perform the tricky and unplesant task of having to move your site later on. Check out http://www.10starhost.com for info on some great hosting deals.

Next- decide on design, good converting sponsors/Products and build your site.(see listings on this site of great converting sponsors) I cannot stress enough-that you must then test it, over and over and then get a freind to test it also. You need to check that every page loads in every browser, firefox, IE, Opera, etc. that ever link, your payment system if you have one and onsite banner works. Then get a friend to check out the same-plus navigation, on site instructions and spelling.

Now, start buy doing the basics-submit your site to search engines,(See index for advice) directories,(See index for listings) If you know your site subject matter, submit articles to articles directories and ezines. This may get you some traffic and some PR from the links back to your site that you should include on your article. Add your URL to the bottom of all your emails. Next Look for a few good toplists to join.Try http://www.your-best-1.com (See index for a list of toplists and sites) Sometimes it can be a good idea to try a few new ones, rather than struggle to get a listing on an extremly busy one.

Get yourself over to http://xchangetextlinks.com/ and list yourself for some text link exchanges. Try boards and forums. If your site is full of webmaster related for example, sign up with as many webmaster boards as you can and add your site url in your sig link. No matter what the subject, you can find related boards and forums they will be intrested in your product or industry.

Join a few SEO/Webmaster forums eg our on site forum, or http://www.work-from-home-ic.com to keep up to date with all the latest tips, ideas, and tricks for running a successful website, as this is an ongoing process.

After a while you should have a bit of PR-So now is the time to search for related sites and ask for reciprical link exchages.

Now-take a bit of time to review your site. What's working well and what needs a little tweak? Is your sales copy what it should be-or could you improve it? Get your site spruced up and now you are ready to look at Pay Per Click advertising, E-mail Marketing etc.

Update/review/ SEO your site monthly. Get a new link exchange, tweak your keywords or add some additional or better products and text. Consider adding a blog, Newsfeeds (RSS) etc, to have regular free daily updated content-the Search Engines will love you for it.

There are the basics-enough to get you started.
